According to the official blog post, Chrome 74 fixes 11 security issues, ranging from high to low severity. Among them, two are classified as high-risk and could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or access sensitive information on the affected system. These are CVE-2023-21215 and CVE-2023-21216, both related to memory corruption bugs in the V8 JavaScript engine.

The other security fixes include a use-after-free vulnerability in navigation (CVE-2023-21217), a heap buffer overflow in media (CVE-2023-21218), an out-of-bounds write in V8 (CVE-2023-21219), a use-after-free in offline pages (CVE-2023-21220), a use-after-free in service workers (CVE-2023-21221), an insufficient policy enforcement in extensions (CVE-2023-21222), an insufficient policy enforcement in downloads (CVE-2023-21223), an incorrect security UI in basic auth (CVE-2023-21224) and a use-after-free in Blink (CVE-2023-21225).

Users can check their Chrome version by clicking on the three-dot menu icon at the top right corner of the browser and selecting Help > About Google Chrome. If the update is available, it will be automatically downloaded and installed. Alternatively, users can manually download the latest version of Chrome from the official website.

Chrome 74 also brings some new features and improvements, such as a dark mode for Windows 10 users, a reduced motion preference for web animations, support for private class fields in JavaScript and various performance and stability enhancements.

Chrome 74 is not the only browser update that users should pay attention to. Recently, Mozilla also released Firefox 66.0.5, which fixes a major issue that caused some extensions to stop working due to an expired certificate. The update restores the functionality of affected extensions and prevents further problems.

Microsoft also rolled out a new update for its Edge browser, based on the Chromium engine. Edge 74.1.96.24 brings several new features, such as a dark mode, a reading mode, a PDF reader, a built-in translator and more. The update also improves the compatibility and performance of the browser on various platforms.

Keeping web browsers updated is essential for ensuring a safe and smooth online experience. Users should always check for updates regularly and install them as soon as they are available. This way, they can protect themselves from potential cyberattacks and enjoy the latest features and improvements that browser developers offer.

Another way to enhance the security and privacy of web browsing is to use a VPN service. A VPN, or virtual private network, encrypts the traffic between the user's device and the VPN server, making it harder for third parties to intercept or monitor it. A VPN also allows the user to access geo-restricted content and websites by changing their IP address and location.

There are many VPN services available on the market, but not all of them are reliable and trustworthy. Some may collect and sell user data, expose user activity to leaks or malware, or provide slow and unstable connections. Therefore, users should do some research before choosing a VPN service and look for features such as a strict no-logs policy, a large network of servers, a kill switch, a DNS leak protection and a fast and consistent speed.

One of the best VPN services that meets these criteria is NordVPN. NordVPN has over 5500 servers in 60 countries, offering a high level of security and performance. NordVPN uses AES-256 encryption, the same standard used by the US government and military, to protect user data. NordVPN also has a strict no-logs policy, meaning that it does not store or share any user information or activity. NordVPN also has a kill switch, which automatically disconnects the user from the internet if the VPN connection drops, preventing any data leaks. NordVPN also has a DNS leak protection, which ensures that the user's DNS requests are routed through the VPN server and not exposed to third parties.

NordVPN is easy to use and compatible with various devices and platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, Chrome, Firefox and more. NordVPN also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, so users can try it risk-free. To get started with NordVPN, users can visit the official website and choose a plan that suits their needs. e0e6b7cb5c
